CA - Lithium Americas starts construction at Thacker Pass
Lithium Americas ( NYSE: LAC ) said Thursday it has started construction at its Thacker Pass lithium project in Nevada, following the receipt of notice to proceed from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
The announcement follows the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' denial of a request by environmental groups for an emergency injunction that would have stopped work on the project.
The court order did not impose any restrictions expected to impact the construction timeline, the company said.
Thacker Pass is targeting 80K metric tons/year of battery-quality lithium carbonate production capacity in two phases, with phase one production is expected to begin in H2 2026.
General Motors recently became Lithium Americas' ( LAC ) largest investor after the closing of the initial $320M tranche from the automaker's $650M investment .
