SPY - Meme Stocks Led By AMC Dominate Again
Stocks had relatively quiet holiday-shortened week, at least where major indexes were concerned. The Dow Industrials (DJI), S&P 500 (SP500), and Nasdaq Composite (COMP.IND) rallied today to finish in the green: The Dow and S&P gained about 0.6% week-over-week, with the Nasdaq adding about 0.5%. Those figures as of the time of this writing at 3pm on Friday. There were few major data releases to move markets, though non-farm payrolls today seemed to give the market what it wanted. The 559,000 new jobs versus 650,000 anticipated was in the 'just right' territory to keep fears of Fed tightening away while also alleviating any concerns about the economic recovery. Winners & Losers A lot of the action this week was in meme stocks: AMC Entertainment Holdings (AMC) saw its price double on Wednesday before retreating from its high and is holding on to a gain of about 94% for the week.
