OUST - Ouster files patent infringement complaint against Chinese competitor

Ouster, Inc. ( OUST ) ( NYSE: OUST ) announced the filing of a patent infringement complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission ( ITC ) against Hesai Group ( HSAI ) on Wednesday.

The complaint alleges the Shanghai-based company unlawfully imported LiDAR sensors that “infringe on five valid and enforceable patents owned by Ouster relating to lidar technology.” The complaint adds that Hesai ( HSAI ) has previously been accused of infringement by Ouster-acquisition Velodyne Lidar(VLDR), which was settled for a “payment of millions of dollars upfront and ongoing royalties.”

“As companies attempt to copy our digital approach, we will continue to vigorously enforce our intellectual property until the infringing products are barred,” Ouster CEO Angus Pacala commented. “Lidar is a critical technology providing vision for advanced automation and smart technologies across supply chains, infrastructure, and defense. The global lidar industry relies on fair competition, and IP must be protected.”

Ouster ( OUST ) stock rose 5.64% in premarket action.
