OCGN - Risk of heart inflammation higher after COVID-19 than post vaccination: Study
Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) - BioNTech's (NASDAQ:BNTX) coronavirus vaccine was linked to side effects like increased risk of myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle. But, according to a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, the risk of heart inflammation is higher in people infected with COVID-19 than the vaccine, Reuters reports. Among every 100,000 patients who get the vaccine, 1 to 5 are likely develop myocarditis. However, that rate is much higher - 11 per 100,000 - among people infected with the coronavirus, researchers say. In the analysis, the vaccinated and control groups each included a mean of 884,828 persons. Overall, 21 persons reported myocarditis in the vaccinated group, the median age was 25 years and 90.9% were male - compared with 6 people among the unvaccinated.
