SLM - Sallie Mae Provides $85000 in Grants to Support Local Nonprofit Organizations

Funds to Support Training and Education in Communities Where Sallie Mae Employees Live and Work

In its continued support of education and the local community, Sallie Mae, through its charitable arm The Sallie Mae Fund, awarded $85,000 in grants to support nonprofit organizations in Delaware and Indiana.

The grants support training and education-focused programs at University of Delaware Center for Economic Education & Entrepreneurship, the Music School of Delaware, Dave Duerson Athletic Safety Fund, American Heart Association, and Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley.

The University of Delaware Center for Economic Education & Entrepreneurship was awarded $25,000 to support its “Keys to Financial Success” program, which provides high school teachers with training, support, and materials needed to teach personal finance to students.

The Music School of Delaware was awarded $25,000 to provide financial assistance to underserved students.

The Dave Duerson Athletic Safety Fund received $15,000 to assist doctors in diagnosing concussions for student athletes.

The American Heart Association was awarded $10,000 to fund CPR in-school training kits at two Delaware high schools.

The Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley chapter received $10,000 to fund a wish for Delaware-area youth.

“We at Sallie Mae are incredibly proud to support the missions of these five nonprofit organizations as they continue to foster opportunities for life-long learning and help members of our community to lead prosperous futures,” said Martha Holler, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “From high school programs that teach students the importance of personal finance to medical tests that aid doctors in treating concussions for student athletes, each of these organizations has demonstrated a commitment to our local communities and is actively working to improve lives every day.”

Since 2014, The Sallie Mae Fund has awarded nearly $2 million in grants to local nonprofit organizations. For more information about Sallie Mae’s efforts in the community, visit SallieMae.com.
