SLM - Sallie Mae to Award $25000 College Scholarship to High School Junior or Senior From Utah

High School Counselors and Community Leaders Nominate Deserving Students for Sallie Mae’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship Now Through Sept. 26 at SallieMae.com/BridgingTheDream

Sallie Mae® will again award a $25,000 college scholarship to a Utah high school junior or senior through its Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program. High school counselors and community leaders can nominate students now through Sept. 26.

Sallie Mae’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program recognizes students who have excelled both inside and outside of the classroom, but whose financial circumstances or other obstacles in life may not allow them to pursue a college education.

Since 2016, Sallie Mae has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students through the Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program. Last year, Thanh Le — a senior at Taylorsville High School — was Utah’s recipient of the Bridging the Dream Scholarship. Thanh was nominated by his high school counselor, Claire Dukatz.

“Every high school counselor and community leader, in this state, knows a hard-working and gifted student whose academic achievement, service to others, and personal triumphs make them an ideal candidate to be nominated for the Bridging the Dream Scholarship,” said Claire Dukatz, counselor, Taylorsville High School. “I strongly encourage my colleagues across the state to take full advantage of this opportunity and help make the dream of a higher education a reality for a deserving student.”

Other 2018 Bridging the Dream Scholarship recipients, nominated by school counselors or leaders of their local community were: Joe Bell of Gladstone, Missouri; Simone Dobosh of Elizabeth, Pennsylvania; Essence Duplechain of Houston, Texas; Jenna Frezza of Hammond, Indiana; Ardavia Lee of New Castle, Delaware; and Doug Sullivan of Saraland, Alabama. Recipients shared their stories with Sallie Mae through mini documentaries, available at SallieMae.com/BridgingTheDream.

“Utah is one of our home states, and since 2007 Sallie Mae has awarded more than $1 million in college scholarships,” said Martha Holler, senior vice president, Sallie Mae. “We look forward to continuing our longstanding history of helping to make college happen for students and families from the Beehive State!”
