SDC - SmileDirectClub alleged to have misled customers in Australia
Mark Von Holden/Getty Images Entertainment The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has accused SmileDirectClub ([[SDC]] -3.7%) of misleading consumers over the insurance coverage for its clear aligner therapy. Initiating legal proceedings against the company and its U.S. parent, the regulator said that tens of thousands of customers underwent the treatment after being incorrectly told by the company that their insurer would partially cover the payment for the treatment. “Affected consumers did not discover that they would not receive any health insurance reimbursement until after the SmileDirectClub treatment had been paid for in full,” chairman of the watchdog Rod Sims said The Australian reported.
