UGI - Supreme Court backs PennEast pipeline in New Jersey land dispute
stanley45/E+ via Getty Images The U.S. Supreme Court rules in favor of a group of energy companies seeking to build the 116-mile PennEast natural gas pipeline from Pennsylvania to New Jersey despite the latter state's objections to seizing property for construction of the $1.2B project. In a 5-4 ruling, the justices overturned a lower court ruling in favor of New Jersey's government. PennEast has said it expects to put the first phase of the project in Pennsylvania in service in 2022 and complete the second phase from Pennsylvania to New Jersey in 2024. Enbridge ([[ENB]]) leads the consortium, which also includes South Jersey Industries (SJI), New Jersey Resources (NJR), Southern Co. (SO) and UGI Corp. (UGI)
