XOM - The worst performing ETF for the quarter week year and decade is still no value
It's hard to find a silver lining in the brutal fortunes of the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE), which lost 20% over the the quarter, making it the biggest loser of the sector ETFs monitored by the Seeking Alpha ETF tracker.This came against the broader S&P 500 gaining 13% over that time. Even the second-worst performer, the Financial SPDR (XLF) gained 4%.The XLF at least has cheap valuations to offer to those willing to look past major headwinds. Or not. The forward P/E multiple of 24x isn't much less than the 27x for the S&P 500. Further, those names that have dragged the XLF down the most aren't necessarily values either.Falling oil prices were again on full display this week, with crude down another 4% to below $37 per barrel.
