UBER - Uber Introduces New 'Explore' Feature

Uber (NYSE: UBER) announced a new “Explore” feature on Tuesday that permits users to make dinner reservations, book concert tickets as well as other events through the Uber app. The actions come as the company strives to mold its app into more of a lifestyle product.

When viewing the Explore tab in the Uber app, users will be given recommendations based on categories such as food and drink, art and culture, nightlife, music and shows, etc.

“We plan to expand Explore to more cities in the coming weeks and months, along with more event opportunities and experiences offerings,” the company said in a statement. “It will be easy to purchase tickets to events and experiences because you can pay conveniently with your Uber Wallet & Payment profile,” it added.

The restaurant bookings are managed through a Yelp integration in the app. Furthermore, the company will display five-star ratings for restaurants within the new tab.

“We’ve built Uber Explore to take our customers beyond the ride,” said Adib Roumani, product lead for Uber Explore.

Uber “Explore” is now available in Atlanta; Chicago; Dallas; Houston; Los Angeles; Memphis, Tennessee; Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota; New Orleans; Orlando, Florida; San Antonio; San Francisco and Seattle. Furthermore, it’s live in New Jersey, upstate New York, and Mexico City, Mexico.
