MSFT - Union says Activision illegally fired workers who spoke out in protest
- The Communications Workers of America has accused Activision Blizzard ( NASDAQ: ATVI ) of illegally firing two videogame testers over "strong language" used in a protest.
- That's an indicator of continuing efforts toward unionization at the company from the CWA, which got a foothold over the past year as three small groups of testers voted to unionize last year , amid a push to acquire the company by Microsoft ( MSFT ).
- The National Labor Relations Board issued complaints last year charging Activision Blizzard ( ATVI ) with threatening employees posting on social media about work conditions, and withholding raises from pro-union workers.
- The company responded, though, that it takes appropriate disciplinary action with regard to its code of conduct, Reuters noted : “Using abusive, threatening or harassing language toward colleagues is unacceptable and we are disappointed that the CWA is advocating for this type of behavior."
- The workers used "strong language," Activision said, in protesting an announcement from the company that employees would be required to report to the office three days per week starting in April.
