VZ - Verizon Ericsson Qualcomm hit 5.06 Gbps 5G speed
Verizon (VZ), Ericsson (ERIC +3.4%) and Qualcomm (QCOM) have achieved 5G peak speeds of 5.06 Gbps downstream, the companies say. They used carrier aggregation, blending eight separate channels of spectrum to hit those speeds. The lab-based trial used infrastructure equipment from the Ericsson Radio System portfolio, and a 5G smartphone form factor test device powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X60 5G Modem-RF System (with third-generation Qualcomm QTM535 mmWave antenna modules). The speed was delivered using 8900 MHz bandwidth in 28 GHz mmWave spectrum, combined with 40 MHz for an LTE anchor - a band combination commercially supported by Ericsson's Radio System portfolio and several 5G devices using the Snapdragon X55 system. Fully mature 5G technology will be capable of reaching speeds of up to 10 Gbps, latency under 5 milliseconds, and service deployment times of 90 minutes.
