Following a mild decline in the previous session, the futures are pointing to a higher start to Thursday's trading. Stocks have seen a lack of direction throughout the week, as investors worry about the health of the economy and the next move for the Federal Reserve. Here are some stocks to watch on Thursday:
- Amazon ( NASDAQ: AMZN ) released an annual letter to shareholders from CEO Andy Jassy, outlining some growth targets for the retailing and internet giant. This includes a projection that the firm's AWS cloud business will reach an $85B annualized revenue run rate. “In AWS, like all our businesses, we’re not trying to optimize for any one quarter or year. We’re trying to build customer relationships (and a business) that outlast all of us," Jassy said.
- Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) edged higher in premarket trading after the firm released its Q1 quarterly results . The company's profit figure failed to meet analysts' expectations. However, the firm's revenue jumped 37% to $12.8B, topping projections by $550M. Shares advanced more than 2% before the opening bell.
- TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo threw some cold water on hopes that Apple ( AAPL ) would soon roll out its Apple Glasses product. The widely followed expert predicted that the iPhone maker will not be ready to go into mass production of its Glasses product until at least 2026 or 2027 "at the earliest."
- Sarepta Therapeutics ( SRPT ) dropped almost 12% in premarket action amid regulatory concerns surrounding its gene therapy candidate SRP-9001. This followed a Stat News report that certain FDA staff members had initially opposed SRP-9001 before eventually agreeing to an advisory committee meeting to review the product. The AdCom meeting is scheduled for May 12, with SRP-9001 currently under the FDA review for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Taking a look at the broader market, Seeking Alpha contributor Chris Puplava believes the Federal Reserve has made a "titanic mistake" in its handling of monetary policy, creating a situation where " a Fed pause will not avert recession ."
