Alibaba's ( NYSE: BABA ) cloud computing unit launched two open-sourced artificial intelligence (AI) models, similar to Meta Platforms' ( META ) Llama 2, Reuters reported.
The Chinese e-commerce giant said it will open-source two large language models (LLMs) called Qwen-7B and Qwen-7B-Chat.
Each model has 7 billion parameters, which is usually used to measure the strength.
The announcement comes after Alibaba said last week that it became the first Chinese enterprise to support Meta's open source AI model Llama 2, enabling its Chinese business users to make programs off the LLM. In July, Meta introduced Llama 2, in collaboration with Microsoft ( MSFT ), for free research and commercial use. Meta made Llama 2 available in the Azure AI model catalog, allowing developers using Microsoft Azure to build with it and use their cloud-native tools for content filtering and safety features.
In April, Alibaba unveiled its LLM, noting that Alibaba Cloud will roll out its own ChatGPT-like product Tongyi Qianwen, which will have Chinese and English language capabilities. A couple of months later, in June, the company announced that it was building the AI model in its messaging app DingTalk and meeting assistant called Tingwu.
