- The BAE Systems ( OTCPK:BAESY ) FAST Labs R&D organization has won a $17.5M contract from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for its Generating RF with Photonic Oscillators for Low Noise (GRYPHON) program.
- BAE will develop breakthrough technology for next-generation airborne radar and communications systems through the program, reducing the size and noise of future systems.
- Current electronic oscillators require large, power-hungry systems, but BAE claims that its approach will reduce the system to the size of a quarter, allowing deployment on smaller platforms and creating a new category of systems.
- Work on the program includes collaboration with subcontractor GenXComm. GenXComm is helping lead photonics subsystem development and specializes in advanced microphotonics.
