Baidu ( NASDAQ: BIDU ) shares rose more than 2% in pre-market trading on Friday as the company's CEO said it would launch the next large language model that powers its artificial intelligence chatbot "very soon."
Speaking at the Zhongguancun Forum, CEO Robin Li said the company would unveil Ernie 3.5 in short order, according to Reuters .
In March, Baidu ( BIDU ) introduced Ernie, its ChatGPT-like AI chatbot, in a pre-recorded video rather than a live demonstration, which disappointed investors and onlookers.
At the time, Li stressed that the Ernie AI chatbot had drawbacks of its own if it was used frequently, but nonetheless, its model was trained on 550B facts to give it a wide range of information.
That same month, OpenAI, which makes ChatGPT, unveiled GPT-4, which it said could receive a better score on the SAT exam than 90% of all test takers.
OpenAI, which is backed by billions from Microsoft ( MSFT ), added that GPT-4 scored in the 90th percentile on a simulated bar exam.
