Botala Energy Ltd (ASX:BTE) energy development manager Dr SteveLennon sits down with Proactive’s Jonathan Jackson to discuss theprogress the company is making with its pre-feasibility study for theSerowe coal bed methane (CBM) Project in Botswana.Lennon explains howthis stage is vital for transitioning from exploration licences tomining licences. The study focuses on three main areas - increasinggas production at the wellfield (upstream), processing andtransportation of gas to central sites (midstream) and gasutilisation, mainly as liquefied natural gas for the Southern Africanmarket (downstream). The options explored include on-site processing, aphysical pipeline and a virtual pipeline for transporting liquefiednatural gas. The initial financial assessments confirm the feasibilityof these options, with straightforward technological requirements andwell-advanced approval processes.Furthermore, Botala Energy'slonger-term objectives include substantial power generation using gasand solar energy. These ambitions necessitate incrementaldevelopments, such as establishing a gas power generation plant and afour-megawatt solar farm at the Leupane Energy Hub. A key partnershiphas been formed with AAA Energy, a developer of photovoltaic farms, todevelop the initial 200-250 megawatts of solar power at Leupane. AAAwill oversee the majority of the bankable feasibility study, which isexpected to be completed by the end of the year.
