FedEx ( NYSE: FDX ) officially welcomed its first 50 BrightDrop Zevo 600 electric delivery vehicles for Canada at an event in Toronto.
The introduction of BrightDrop’s electric vans into the FedEx fleet in Canada was called an important step in the company’s broad goal to transform its entire parcel pickup and delivery fleet to all-electric, zero-tailpipe emissions vehicles by 2040. The initial FedEx ( FDX ) fleet of 50 electric vehicles in Canada will service Toronto, Montreal, and Surrey. FedEx Express Canada plans to expand its electric vehicle fleet footprint as additional charging infrastructure is implemented at FedEx locations across the country.
Powered by General Motors’ ( NYSE: GM ) Ultium Platform, the Zevo 600 electric delivery vehicle is designed for last-mile deliveries, with an estimated range of up to 400 kilometers on a full charge. FedEx and BrightDrop inked an agreement in 2021 that calls for the shipper to incorporate 2,500 total vehicles across FedEx operations in the coming years, including the vehicles that are already in operation in Southern California.
General Motors ( GM ) created its electric delivery vehicle subsidiary in 2021. BrightDrop's list of commercial customers includes Walmart ( WMT ), Hertz Global ( HTZ ), DHL Express, Purolator, American Tire Distributors, WasteNot Compost, Rexel USA, and Ryder ( R ).
