Ford ( NYSE: F ) has increased the number of Tesla ( NASDAQ: TSLA ) Superchargers it plans to add to its electric vehicle (EV) charging network next year, bumping up the figure to 15K from a previous target of 12K.
According to Ford ( F ), its BlueOval Charge Network is North America's largest public charging network by an automaker, providing its EV drivers with access to a number of charging providers without the need for multiple apps and memberships.
Ford ( F ) on Monday also said it would grow the overall BlueOval network by 25% to more than 106K chargers, with customers now able to access three new charging providers: Francis Energy, Blink and Red E across the U.S. and Canada. Ford ( F ) added that the providers would bring more than 10K new chargers to the network, including more than 550 new DC fast chargers.
Ford's ( F ) move to add more Tesla ( TSLA ) Superchargers is another example of automakers tapping into the Elon Musk-led company's sprawling charging network to provide more options for their customers. Ford ( F ) earlier in May became the first major carmaker to strike a deal with Tesla ( TSLA ) to use the Supercharger network.
Consumers who consider buying EVs usually cite the lack of charging stations as one of the factors that dissuades them from making a purchase.
"With the addition of the Tesla Supercharger Network along with new fast chargers coming to Ford Model e dealerships in 2024, we are working hard to make range anxiety a thing of the past for Ford all-electric drivers," Bill Crider, senior director of global charging and energy services at Ford ( F ), said in a statement .
Ford ( F ) stock was down 2% to $9.77 in late afternoon trade on Monday.
