The annual inflation rate in France eased to a six-month low of 5.7% in March of 2023, from 6.3% in February.
This is slightly above a preliminary reading of 5.6%.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices inched up by 0.9%, following a 1% gain in the previous month.
Cost slowed significantly for energy prices (4.9% vs 14.1%) due to a monthly rise (0.2%) less strong than that observed in March last year (9.0%) at the start of the conflict in Ukraine.
Prices also slumped sharply for petroleum products (-7.4% vs 8.8%), due to the declines in the prices of diesel (-8.5% vs 8.0%), gasoline (-3, 5% vs 6.4%) and liquid fuels (-16.1% vs 14.0%).
At the same time, cost eased slightly for services (2.9% vs 3%).
On the other hand, price growth accelerated for food (15.9% vs 14.8%), notably fresh products (17.1% vs 15.0%) and manufactured products (4.8% vs 4.7%).
