Even as remote work remains popular among employees after the pandemic, some companies are looking for ways to get workers back in the office to foster in-person collaboration, according to multiple media reports.
Google ( NASDAQ: GOOG ) ( NASDAQ: GOOGL ) is mulling adding office attendance logs to employees' performance reviews, the Wall Street Journal reported citing a companywide email from Fiona Cicconi, the firm's chief people officer. It will also send reminders to workers with frequent absences.
The tech giant already has a hybrid work policy in place - employees are expected to work in office three times a week. Cicconi said most employees already adhere to this.
"We've heard from Googlers that those who spend at least three days a week in the office feel more connected to other Googlers, and this effect is magnified when teammates work from the same location," Cicconi's memo read, according to the report .
Meanwhile, cloud computing giant Salesforce ( NYSE: CRM ) is resorting to charity to bring its employees back to the office, Fortune reported .
Salesforce ( CRM ) announced an initiative called 'Connect for Good', under which it will donate $10 to a local charity for each day an employee comes to the office during June 12-23. This also extends to remote workers - Salesforce ( CRM ) will donate $10 when a remote employee attends a virtual event. It hopes to raise over $1M through this initiative.
Both Google ( GOOG ) and Salesforce ( CRM ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
