Home Depot (NYSE: HD) is set to begin speedy job offers as a means of combating labor shortages. The company plans to hire over 100,000 workers for both its stores and warehouses ahead of the spring selling season, which usually involves a peak of demand for home-improvement products.
“The consumer demand continues to spike and we want to ensure that we have associates to meet customers’ needs in our aisles,” Vice President and Head of Global Talent Acquisition Eric Schelling told Insider.
In the past, the company has hired approximately 80,000 employees for the spring season. Home Depot’s “accelerated” hiring process highlights the difficulty within the industry to fill open positions. The company now hopes to hire full-time and part-time roles, including customer service and sales, store support, freight, and warehouse workers, and said it will be hosting a virtual spring career day event.
“In today’s climate, jobseekers are shopping for the best opportunity,” Schelling said in a statement.
In order to attract workers, the company revealed it is offering potential employees several incentives, like upskilling programs, tuition reimbursement, a cash bonus program as well as discounted stock purchases.
“It is a very noisy market for job seekers and they keep hearing from everybody, from billboards to radio ads,” he said. “This opportunity just gives you, as the job seeker, the chance to hear from us, to hear what we’re about.”
