TC Energy ( NYSE: TRP ) said Tuesday it paused work on the Coastal GasLink pipeline project after receiving a stop-work order from British Columbia's Environmental Assessment Office on a 20-km stretch of the project near the Little Anzac River north of Prince George, B.C.
The company said work in the region has been affected by challenging spring melt conditions caused by heavy snow this winter followed by a quick spike in temperatures and heavy rainfall.
The project has been slowed by recurring issues with erosion and sediment control over the past year that have resulted in ongoing compliance and enforcement actions by the B.C. regulator.
TC Energy ( TRP ) said construction is safely progressing along other sections of the 670-km Coastal GasLink route, and the project remains on track to be completed by the end of this year with 87% of the line now completed.
In February, the company raised its cost estimate for the Coastal GasLink pipeline project to C$14.5B (US$10.9B), more than double the original estimate.
