HENDERSON, NV / ACCESSWIRE / December 26, 2018 / Dr. Michael Burry, played rather eccentrically by the actor Christian Bale in the 2016 film, "The Big Short" invests in water and the evidence shows that he and other aqua investors are onto something. Consider that water - lots of water - is needed to manufacture modern consumer staples like chocolate and wine. In fact, it takes 872 gallons of water to create one gallon of wine. It also takes 2,061 gallons of water to make one pound of chocolate. Here are some securities you can look at to play water.
Today we are highlighting: OriginClear, Inc. (OCLN), Xylem, Inc. (NYSE: XYL), Aqua America, Inc. (WTR), Ecolab, Inc. (NYSE: ECL), and American Water Works Company (NYSE: AWK).
Water scarcity is becoming a serious problem in the United States. Water quality reports indicate that 45% of U.S. streams, 47% of lakes, and 32% of bays are polluted. Americans use over 2.2 billion pounds of pesticides every year, which eventually washes into our rivers and lakes. Over 73 different kinds of pesticides have been found in U.S. groundwater that eventually ends up in our drinking water. The 5-minute daily shower most Americans take uses more water than a typical person in a developing country uses in a whole day.
OriginClear, Inc. (OCLN) (Market Cap: $2.546M, Share Price: $0.0017) is a leading provider of water treatment solutions. Through its wholly owned subsidiaries, OriginClear provides systems and services to treat water in a wide range of industries, such as municipal, pharmaceutical, semiconductors, industrial, and oil & gas. The company’s water treatment solution has been gaining traction in rural areas, and their client list continues to grow. Most sub-penny stocks don’t have the kind of fundamentals OCLN does, which makes it especially interesting.
As the company builds its client base it will be an interesting target for potential buyers and/ or partners looking to expand their network. In anticipation of potential M&A activity OCLN recently retained TCA International Group for a range of services including identifying potential merger, acquisition, divestiture, consolidation or other combination opportunities and negotiating, structuring and advising in connection with potential M&A Transactions.
A major announcement could be on the horizon, so now’s the time to start your due diligence on OCLN.
Xylem, Inc. (XYL) (Market Cap: $11.031B, Share Price: $61.38) recently announced its plan to join forces with Imagine H2O, in order to promote innovation across the global water industry over the long run.
Aqua America, Inc. (WTR) (Market Cap: $5.762B, Share Price: $32.38) subsidiary, recently acquired the Valley Creek Trunk Sewer System, serving area municipalities, from the Tredyffrin Township Municipal Authority for $28.3 million.
Ecolab, Inc. (ECL) (Market Cap: $39.836B, Share Price: $137.90) signed an agreement to support Clearway Energy Group’s 419-megawatt (MW) wind farm, Mesquite Star, in Fisher County, Texas. Construction of the Mesquite Star wind farm is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2019.
Another water play, American Water Works Company (AWK) (Market Cap: $15.588B, Share Price: $86.31), announced their 2019 earnings guidance, setting 2019 diluted earnings per share (EPS) guidance range of $3.54 to $3.64. The company plans to maintain a five-year adjusted EPS compound annual growth rate in the top half of the 7 to 10% range anchored off 2017 adjusted EPS.
