One of the most important lessons that I have learned in my roughly 18 years of being exposed to investing is that the market often goes off of expectations as opposed to absolute results. A company can see fundamental performance deteriorating, even rapidly, and still see a pop in the share price after reporting results that came in above what analysts anticipated . That does not necessarily mean, however, that you should buy. Context is everything, and at the end of the day, the trajectory the company is on and its valuation need to take precedence. Take, if you will, the case of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. ( CBRL ), a restaurant chain that has historically been one of my favorites....
