USMV: If It Will Ever Outperform, Now Is The Time

Exactly one year ago, I warned readers that the iShares Edge MSCI Min Vol USA ETF ( USMV ) was "not as safe as [they] may think". Since then, the low volatility ETF returned a meager 5% against the S&P 500's ( SPY ) much healthier 23%. To make matters worse, as the chart below depicts, the fund has undergone drawdowns of similar magnitude through the recent Middle East crisis, despite having weathered last year's Liberation Day better - although arguably not so much so as to justify the severe underperformance....
