United Auto Workers (UAW) has lodged unfair labor practice complaints against automakers General Motors Co. (NYSE:GM) and Stellantis NV (NYSE:STLA) with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), CNBC reported.
The charges come in response to the companies not engaging with the union in good faith or a timely manner during contract discussions, UAW President Shawn Fain announced Thursday.
“GM and Stellantis’ willful refusal to bargain in good faith is not only insulting and counterproductive, it’s also illegal,” Fain stated. UAW did not file a complaint against Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F), despite Fain heavily criticizing the company’s response to UAW’s demands.
Stellantis and GM expressed shock at the allegations and refuted claims of not bargaining in good faith. The companies pledged to defend the charges vigorously but remain focused on continuing to bargain in good faith for a new agreement.
